Google Algorithm Update 2021 – Google Page Experience Update

Google Algorithm Update 2021 –Showing the right path to give your Website a better user experience

Google always targets to help users get the most relevant and quality search engine results on the web. So, if google is undergoing a new algorithm update, the motto they have behind it is to make the users find the exact information they are searching for online.

Page experience signals & its effect on Google Search ranking

Now, to help the users get a better user experience in the coming future, Google is introducing a new algorithm update very soon, and it is called the Page Experience. Here, Google is mainly going to analyze what kind of experience the user gets when he or she lands a website.

Improve Your Website Ranking With a Better User Experience

It completely depends on the user experience, whether the ranking of the website will fall or will go up, and eventually, it depends on the Combination of multiple existing factors like Page Speed, Broken Links, Intrusive interstitials, Mobile Optimization, HTTPS.

Page Speed

First and foremost, page speed is a factor, which is going to gain more importance in the coming years. It actually measures how fast the content of the website loads and this loading time requires to be less to give the users, a better user experience.

Broken Links

Broken Links are links on a website that don’t work. These are dead links, and mainly the existence of this kind of broken link in a website gives a bad user experience.

Intrusive interstitials

Intrusive interstitials are taken to be those annoying elements on the webpage, like the unrelated popups, which at times makes the user gets redirected to an undesired site. This leads to a bad user experience, and as per this new algorithm update, websites with this kind of issue are going to be penalized.

Mobile optimization: Mobile-first indexing has been into effect from July 2019 for new websites and from September 2020 it got applicable for all websites. However from March 2021, as per Google’s mobile-first algorithm, if your website is not found to be optimized for mobile-first, that will affect that site performance and traffic.

HTTPS

Last but not the least, protecting your website from cyber threats and phishing attacks is becoming crucial in the coming time. So, the new algorithm has made the existence of https (i.e page security) a must for every website.

This is a very important update, for which Google is also giving that time to the webmasters to fix their websites accordingly before they actually launch this new algorithm.

Better your website performance using Core Web Vitals
The main funda behind this new algorithm update is to help webmasters maintain the speed, security, and usability of their websites. For that reason, they have introduced the Core Web Vitals, which is a part of this “new page experience” signals. The metrics on which the report is based are LCP, FID, and CLS.

What is LCP or (Largest Contentful Paint)?

LCP or Largest Contentful Paint mainly depends on the page loading matrix and is required to be less than 2.5 seconds to give the users a better user experience. Websites with LCP between 2.5 secs and 4secs mean it needs improvement and if it is more than 4 secs, it is said to be in a poor condition.

What is FID (First Input Delay) ?

First Input Delay measures how fast the website responds when the user first interacts with the website. It actually measures the interactivity of the website, and if the delay time is less than 100ms, the website is taken to be interactive. Websites with FID between 100ms and 300ms means it needs improvement and if it is more than 300ms it is said to be in a poor condition.

What is CLS or (Cumulative Layout Shift) ?

CLS or Cumulative Layout Shift measures the visual stability of the content on a website. When we find the content of a page in a website to move from the point of its origin to compensate for whats’ going on the page (which might be due to an image, an I-frame, an ad-sense, etc), the website is said to have a CLS issue. Lower the CLS score, it is better for your website. Anything between 0.1 and 0.25 means it needs improvement and if it is above 0.25, it is taken to be poor. Websites with high CLS scores are usually websites with poor conversion rates, higher bounce rates, and other poor user behavior metrics. Therefore the new algorithm has detected it as an issue that can affect website ranking.

Measure your Core Web Vitals

To give your website an enjoyable user experience, it is important to fix these issues on your website. Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights, and even Google Search Console are such tools that can be used to get an audit of your website and to identify your website improvement opportunities. Once it’s identified you can get your developers to fix it.

Conclusion

These Core Web Vitals has always been a thing of importance because it provides a better user experience. However, after the Google algorithm update 2021, it has been an important official ranking factor.
